The constitution and law prohibit torture; however, there were numerous credible reports that security forces and prison personnel tortured detainees and prisoners.

In October Peyman Fatahi was hospitalized after security officials reportedly beat him severely after summoning him for questioning related to his association with a group known as the "Ale-Yasin community." Authorities first arrested Fatahi in June 2007 and conditionally released him after holding him for six months in Evin Prison on charges of "acting against national security." Group members alleged that he was also severely beaten during his 2007 imprisonment

Arrest of three more active lady members of Ale Yasin Society

Three more active lady members of Ale Yasin Society, namely Arezoo Ghanbari, Reyhaneh Abdolkarimi and Hoda Parvizi were arrested by Religions Administration of [Iran Ministry of] Intelligence and were sent to section 209 of the security prison on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

Reportedly, these members were arrested at some post offices [in Tehran] by intelligence agents in a planned mission. Security agents also attacked houses of some other members such as Hasan Soltanali (Vassama Publications Director), Fariba Joneidi (Supervisor of the Research Group), and Morteza Rasoulian’s family members (Fatemeh Zandi and Ashraf Zandi) and investigated they houses.

On the other hand, the recalling waves of Ale-Yasin members to Intelligence Ministry Follow-ups Administration are continuing. Examples are recalling of Sara Yousefpour (Secretary of Thinkers and Probers professional association) and Mahshid Najafi, (Taalime Hagh Publications director).
